How to turn off owner names

Land Owl prints the owner's name across each parcel. It is on by default, and at closer zooms it can cover the imagery you are actually trying to look at. Here is how to switch it off — and back on.

On the web app

1. Open the map at app.landowl.com/map.
2. In the toolbar, click Layers.
3. Look at the very top of the Layers panel, just above the Filter layers... search box. There is a small row of controls: Parcels, Owner names, Map labels.
4. Click Owner names. It switches from green (on) to grey (off), and the names disappear from the parcels straight away.

That is it — no save button, no refresh.

To bring the names back, click Owner names again.

Two things worth knowing

• Turning owner names off does not hide the parcel outlines. The yellow boundaries stay exactly where they were; only the text goes. If you want the outlines gone too, switch Parcels off as well.
• Turning owner names back on will switch Parcels on if you had turned it off, because the names are drawn on the parcels.

If you only see icons

If your Layers panel is narrow, that row collapses to icons with no text to save space. Owner names is the tag icon, in the middle of the three. Hover it and it will tell you "Hide owner names on parcels". Widening the panel brings the labels back.

On the mobile app

Not yet. There is currently no switch for owner names in the iOS app — the names are drawn as part of the parcel layer and cannot be turned off on their own. It is on the list.

The one thing that does work on mobile: owner names only appear once you are zoomed in past street level, so zooming out a little clears them (along with the parcels themselves).
