Pick the app you're using
The web app and the mobile app don't always work the same way, so each has its own instructions.
In the toolbar, click My Maps.
The My Maps panel opens.
Click Save current as New Map.
Type a name, for example My field map, and click Save.
To open it again later, click My Maps and click the map in the list.
When you first open the map page you can also choose Open a saved map.

Plans
Saving maps needs a paid plan. On the free plan the save option reads Upgrade your plan to save maps on the web, or Upgrade to save maps on mobile.
Web maps save themselves
Once you are working in a saved map on the web, changes are saved automatically. Only the Sandbox is not saved.
